I didn't really want it, certainly don't need it.. but I bought it and paid too much. But that's what friends are for. The seller and I have gone on many detecting trips, he is now looking at his second hip replacement.. The Tdi Pro Oz series had to go. Last few outings he used my Tdi Sl and I swung his Pro. The Pro is not heavy by any means and balances nicely with most coils, but we all get old. He struggled with the Pro but had no problems with the lighter SL. For people with health issues or if for whatever reason machine weight is critical, the SL shines.
For a while I thought the only difference with the Pro and Sl, aside from size weight and power supply, were the volume control and fine ground balance, wow was I wrong..
From the same White's stable yes but very different. Ground balance settings affect the target response a little differently, the smooth threshold of the SL is not the same as the Pro's unsteady garble... I could steady the Pro threshold by dropping gain but eventually abandoned the threshold and upped the gain a little running silent. Just turned threshold down just past whisper to silent, barely a fraction of a turn, this with gain higher than with threshold. Result were better depth and target response. No fluctuations to distract me just silence.
Goes against everything I believe about nugget hunting, a nice whisper of threshold to hear those tiny fluctuations. That is how I hunt with the Tdi Sl but it just doesn't work for ME with the Tdi Pro. Just past threshold to silent, lots of gain and the PRO performs. Requires careful checking on a regular basis but that just silent position is near 12 o clock, it hasn't varied it's constant and I'm gaining confidence in this technique.
Very different machines, I have to run them their own way. After the SL I cannot stand the Pro's unsteady threshold.
Any suggestions or alternatives in regards to the Tdi Pro threshold. It is new to me so I'm certainly happy to learn and listen..
All the best,
Karelian
